DBT Skills Groups

Groups Offered

Weekly DBT Skills Group

I conduct a DBT Skills Group weekly on Monday evenings from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Skyland Trail (1961 N. Druid Hills Rd. Atlanta, GA 30329).

This group is a psycho-educational group, meaning that we don’t generally process current issues, but focus on skills learning and practice. The group is organized into three 10-week modules that teach the skills of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Mindfulness Practice, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Emotion Regulation skills using Marsha Linehan’s DBT Skills Training Handouts and Worksheets, 2nd Edition as our guide.

Modules begin with two weeks of Mindfulness Practice and continue with a focus on one of the other three skills for the remaining eight weeks. During the first two weeks, new members may enter the group, and during the remaining eight weeks, the group is closed to new members. It is usually recommended that members participate in all modules, and this group is a good refresher for individuals who would like to feel more confident about their skills. An initial intake session is conducted to determine group recommendations.

Distress Tolerance Module

Beginning Date: Monday, December 3, 2018
Time: 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm
Ending Date: Monday, February 18, 2018
Place: Skyland Trail, 1961 N. Druid Hills Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329

Please feel free to contact me for more information regarding this group. I’m happy to answer any and all questions and help you get started! I look forward to hearing from you!

DBT Skills Maintenance Group

I also lead a DBT Skills Maintenance Group on Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm- 7:00 pm at Skyland Trail (1961 N. Druid Hills Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329). This group is a process group where members discuss current life situations and receive feedback about using skills to address these situations.

Due to the structure of the group, it is important for group members to have a basic understanding of skills and to be seeking continuous support in utilizing skills for the long-term. For this reason, it is important that I have a referral from a DBT therapist that an individual has a good grasp of skills, or I need to see this understanding in a skills group in order for a new member to be considered for participation in the Maintenance Group. This group is an open group until it reaches the full capacity, at which time it becomes closed.

On-Going Maintenance Group

Day and Time: Every other Thursday, 6:00 pm- 7:00 pm
Place: Skyland Trail, 1961 N. Druid Hills, Atlanta, GA 30329

This group is currently closed; however, I am looking for new members to begin a second maintenance group on alternating Thursday evenings to the one listed above. For more information about the new group, please contact me; I’m willing to answer any and all questions. I look forward to hearing from you!
